Short answer: cement tiles are cleaned acid-free with a mild natural-soap-based floor care such as stone clear UR 19 (1–2 dl per 10 L of water). Limescale is also removed acid-free with UR 27. For refreshing the colours and protection, SB 48 Cement Tile Oil is suitable. Vinegar, citric acid and acidic bathroom cleaners are off-limits.
Why cement tiles need special care
Cement tiles are made of coloured cement. They are absorbent and acid-sensitive: acid attacks the surface, and oil and grease soak in quickly. With the right care, however, they develop a beautiful, silky patina.

Guide: regular care with UR 19
- 1–2 dl UR 19 per 10 L of lukewarm water. For the first application, especially on highly absorbent tiles, double the dosage.
- Wet-mop and leave briefly – ideally with the RG 923 Multi-Fibre System.
- Pick up the dirty water and let dry.
After several applications, a silky care film forms that makes the surface smoother and easier to maintain. 10 L of solution is enough for approx. 80–120 m².
Guide: oiling cement tiles with SB 48
- First check the tiles' oil absorbency in an inconspicuous spot.
- Only treat clean, thoroughly dry floors.
- Apply SB 48 undiluted and sparingly with a soft brush, cloth or soft roller.
- Let it soak in and rub off excess oil with a cotton cloth.
1 L is enough for approx. 12–30 m². Repeat the treatment periodically. Dispose of soaked cloths in a metal tin because of the risk of spontaneous combustion.
Frequently asked questions
Can I clean cement tiles with vinegar?
No. Vinegar is an acid and attacks cement tiles. Use acid-free products such as UR 19 and UR 27.
How do I get an oil stain out of cement tiles?
With OE 68 Oil and Stain Paste, which is expressly also suitable for cement slabs. More in the guide Removing oil stains.
How often do I need to oil cement tiles?
That depends on how much wear they get. When the colours look duller and water soaks in faster, it's time for a refresh. Regular care with UR 19 extends the protection considerably.
